Mother’s Day is the one time women celebrate pain. Giving birth to a child is PAINFUL. Women do not have the privilege of knowing what each child will be like at birth.
All during the delivery steps – the baby takes route upon a new journey. The child is pushed through the birth canal -while the mother screams from pain. Once the child enters into a new world, there is so much joy.
Now the work begins for both mother and new baby. Two completely different persons get to know each other. Of course, the child is dominant in the relationship. The mother works to make the child comfortable and learn his/her needs.
A partnership is formed with a CEO and a Corporation. The mother is the CEO and hopes the child “Will Cooperate”.
Motherhood is not the same for each parent- so many variables.
Disappointment happens, goals and expectations may not be met, and everyone feels lousy in their roles. On the other hand – parent and child relationships progress without a hiccup.
Regardless of how the relationship develops – every year children have the opportunity of telling their parent, “Thank you for going through pain for me”.
I am reminded of a mother who went through pain because she could not have children. Hannah was married to a man named Elkanah. Her husband married another woman named Peninnah – who had children.
Every year Hannah’s pain grew greater because she was childless. This woman prayed and sacrificed to the Lord for a child. Finally, the Lord opened her womb and she gave birth to a son named Samuel.
The most amazing thing about Hannah’s journey was after God answered her prayer – she surrendered her child to the Lord.
Hannah received the miracle of a child. She gave her most treasured and valuable gift to the Lord. After all Hannah’s pain – Samuel never said, “Happy Mother’s Day”.
To all the mother’s who never heard “Happy Mother’s Day” from your children – give them over to the Lord.
19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. 20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD. 21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. 22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever. 23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him. 24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young. 25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli. 26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. 27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: 28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there. 1 Samuel 1:19-28
