I Miss My Mama

I was in the kitchen making a pot of coffee. A feeling of love lost swept into my emotions. Coffee triggered wonderful thoughts about mom. Oh how I miss my Mama!

Mama had the kindest smile in the world. Even when she was upset and finished preaching truth – that wonderful smile appeared.

In her final stages of life, she said this to me, “If my mother was still alive – I would lay on the floor and let her give me a good old fashioned whipping”. That was a missing mama moment!

Mom loved peppermints after a good meal. She said the minty taste helped her to drink water. Family knew mom was just having a sugar craving.

Mother was a wonderful cook and was famous for her hot water cornbread. To this day – no one in the family can master the technique.

The worst whipping mama ever gave me was when she thought I was getting too flirty with boys. Of course, her imagination was playing tricks. I did no such thing!

My mother was a student of God’s word. She could read the Bible for hours. As she read God’s word, mom would talk to the Bible characters, telling them what God meant.

I learned how to forgive from my mom. I learned how to love unconditionally from mom. I still have a note she wrote to me when I was going through a divorce. She reminded me to still love through the hurt and pain!

There are so many things I could share about mom. In all of her conversations she would tell everyone to love people. Her last departing words to me were, “I love you”.

Mom’s favorite saying was, “Love the hell out of people”. Mama I am trying to live up to your legacy of love.

This post is healing for me today. I invite everyone to share comments about your deceased mother. Share how you miss your mom.

This was my mother’s favorite song.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:16-17
