Each day we are nearer to death than the next. Adam and Eve escaped instant death because of God’s plan for their lives. Neither Adam nor Eve had lived out their purpose or destiny before they sinned. God was determined to get glory out of their lives regardless of their mistake – so He put death on hold.
The Lord started a long courtship with His first creation. Adam and Eve had no reason for jealousy or envy because God had not created any other humans. They had God’s attention and time. They saw God up close and personal – something man today has never done in that fashion.
Before sin – God, Adam, and Eve existed in the same place. They shared the same space. Sin came along and put barriers between God and man.
God created the first man on a higher spiritual level – closest as He could to His own Spirit. Man had no sin therefore, his flesh was not a rival to God’s Spirit. Man’s mind and heart were undefiled, so God could put more of Himself in Adam.
After sin, Adam and Eve were aware of God’s presence, but could not share in the accustomed level of intimacy. The flesh rose up against the spirit man.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:5-8 (KJV)
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (KJV)
Only in a death setting can man experience new life.
Man must be dead to his flesh before entering the presence of God.
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 1 Corinthians 15:50 (KJV)
We have near death experiences in order to get a glimpse of true intimacy with God. In a near death experience, the spirit leaves the carnal, sinful, fleshly body. Man goes back to his original spirit the way God created Adam. Then, and only then, can a person have a spiritual encounter with the Lord.
1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) 4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities. 6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 2 Corinthians 12:1-7 (KJV)
Near death experiences are not just for one purpose, some experiences include:
- The realness of Heaven and Hell and what they are like
- Warning messages
- Messages of instructions
- Witness to the Supreme Being of our Lord
- Witness to the Word of God
- God is forgiving and long suffering
- Opportunities for changed hearts and minds
- To be a more effective witness of the Gospel message
Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire. Deuteronomy 4:36 (KJV)
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Luke 16:20-26 (KJV)
